I just found out there is a Mecda belly dance event on Dec. 18 in San Luis Obispo, CA at the Vet's hall. And I'm doing a show in the area on Dec 19, which means I have Sat. free to go to the belly dance festivities. Yay me! It's tribal, so I need to finish my new tribal costume. Woohoo. Can't wait.

Re: Returning to my old stomping grounds!
Thu, December 2, 2004 - 8:02 AMThere's also a Temple of Vibe going on in Dayton Ohio same day.

I hope to be there, never been to one, but Jess assures me it's the one dance event I don't want to miss this year.
Its centered on trance dancing and such, but check the website for better info.

Sun, January 2, 2005 - 9:27 PMI was curious what trance dancing is? I guess being a member of this tribe, you would think I would know. I love the sound of it. -

Re: Returning to my old stomping grounds!
Mon, February 7, 2005 - 11:02 PMLong before belly dancing ever hit the stage, it was a folk dance done by the people for the people. The moves were very repetitive. Boring by today's standards I'm sure. But the object wasn't to 'wow' an audience, but rather to induce a trance or meditative state. To zone out to the drumbeat as it were. To feel connected to spirit, the earth, the sky, the fire. -

Re: Returning to my old stomping grounds!
Wed, March 9, 2005 - 4:36 PMWe used the electronic ohm and then the cd by professor trance called shaman's breath. We had bandanas over our eyes and just let loose and danced through the whole cd. afterward we sat in a circle and some people shared their experiences. Then we just had an open dance floor and acted like idiots. It was so much fun. You wouldn't believe the relaxation and inner peace that comes after one of these things.
It's got nothing to do with performance and everything to do with inner personal discovery and release.

Re: Returning to my old stomping grounds!
Sat, May 14, 2005 - 5:37 PMI had the joy of that type of experience in a class called Eclectic Dance. They played song selections from all over the world. People of all ages and nationalities were there. And it was non-judgemental and fun. We got to just cut loose.
